Big Local Thurnscoe’s first Dinosaur Day is a ROAR-ing success!
Hundreds of people made their way to Thurnscoe’s Phoenix Park on Sunday 20th May to attend BLT’s first ever Dinosaur Day at which a huge animatronic T- Rex dinosaur was the BIG attraction. In addition to several T-Rex walkabouts, there were baby dinosaurs with their handlers, a huge dinosaur egg that people could climb inside to have their pictures taken, and other creatures including alpacas, donkeys and reptiles to handle. Community stalls offered craft and environmental activities and there was face painting, inflatables and a range of catering stalls present too.

We were delighted with the success of our first community event of 2018. Hundreds of people joined us on a beautiful day in one of our best local attractions to see all creatures great and small and access a brand new Dinosaur Trail through Phoenix Park. One of our key priorities is ‘bringing the community together’ and this event was a great example of how this can be achieved through partnership working. We would like to thank all of our hardworking Big Local Thurnscoe volunteers, the community stalls who came to provide information to local residents, The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) who worked with us to get the site prepared and provided toasted marshmallow and den building activities on the day, and Voluntary Action Barnsley and XPO who helped us with some extra volunteers. We look forward to welcoming families to our next event, the Beach Party in the Park on Saturday 4th August in Thurnscoe Flower Park’
