Magical Mystery Tour in Thurnscoe
On 14th September, Big Local Thurnscoe hosted a ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ for special guests including Matt Leach who is the CEO of Local Trust, the national organisation which oversees the work of all Big Local areas across the country.
The tour began with a meet and greet reception at Thurnscoe Library followed by visits to a number of locations in the village where Big Local Thurnscoe has had an impact.
This included Thurnscoe Reservoir where a brand new interpretation board has just been installed, and where a pond dipping platform will be situated next month, and the Flower Park where most of BLT’s popular community events take place.
There was also time to visit the two houses that have undergone a complete refurbishment and are now up for sale, with all proceeds being reinvested into further housing initiatives in the village. Matt and guests enjoyed finding out about the challenges faced and how these have been overcome to make Thurnscoe a ‘better place to live’.
Matt had this to say about the visit;
Big Local is a unique funding programme, putting over £1m in the hands of local people to make a difference to their local area. I was massively impressed by what Big Local Thurnscoe have achieved so far and their ambitious plans for the future.
What was most impressive were the number of people I met on my visit who said how much Thurnscoe had come together as a community over the last few years, and how Big Local had contributed to that change. “
