Celebrate ten years of positive change at our Building the Future event on 23 March
STOP PRESS: tickets for the Lumini are now fully booked, but come along and enjoy all the other entertainment!
On Saturday 23 March, join us between 10 am and 4pm at the Community Plaza and Sports Ground for a special community celebration – Building the Future.
This fun, free family-friendly event will mark ten years since Big Local Thurnscoe received over £1 million in lottery funding to make positive changes in the area led by the community.
The centrepiece will be the amazing Architects of Air Lumini installation. Step inside these colourful structures and experience an amazing space of light and sound. As you explore, you’ll connect with community stories from the past decade.
Our event will also include a Marketplace of Opportunities at the Community Plaza. Talk to local projects and share your ideas for Thurnscoe’s future. And be entertained by walkabout theatre from MarkMark Productions.
“We’re excited to host this event and look back on all we’ve done together,” says Alison Vint of Big Local Thurnscoe. “But we also want to look forward to what’s possible for our community. We hope Lumini and the Marketplace of Opportunities inspires you about the bright future ahead.”
Come and join your friends and neighbours on 23 March 10am to 4pm – admission is free, but you’ll need a ticket for the Lumini installation. Get yours here.
What’s happening next with Big Local Thurnscoe?
Big Local Thurnscoe is coming to an end in 2024. Over the last ten years we’ve worked together with the community in Thurnscoe to create fun events and make lots of tangible changes to the village, including the community plaza, Go Wild! sculpture trail, mosaic, play areas, Christmas lights and much more.
We want the momentum and positive changes to continue, so we’ve set up a new charity called Thurnscoe Regeneration. Thurnscoe Regeneration will look after projects including the Community Plaza, the Christmas lights and tree, and the Go Wild sculptures.
The charity will apply for funding to put on exciting community events, create opportunities for children and young people in Thurnscoe and improve our green spaces.
